Instances Where You Might Have More Than One A/C Unit, And Why It May Not Be Ideal

About Me
The Importance Of HVAC System Efficiency

Having the right heating and cooling system in a home or business can have a huge impact on the energy costs associated with HVAC systems. Units that are too large or too small are unable to properly heat or cool a building at maximum efficiency. Hello, my name is Roland, and if you're interested in learning everything you can about HVAC systems, you'll find the information you need in this blog. I belong to an environmental organization that helps homeowners and business owners learn how to reduce their energy costs. Our organization helps people save money on their energy bills, and while doing so, this also helps the planet. I've written this blog to help others learn about HVAC systems and how qualified HVAC contractors can help them save money and help the environment.

Instances Where You Might Have More Than One A/C Unit, And Why It May Not Be Ideal

Most homes of average size only have one air conditioning unit. Slightly larger homes may have two. However, there are places and instances where you might have two or more air conditioning units, but it is not always as advantageous a thing as you might think.

Commercial Buildings, Extra Commercial A/C Units

Think skyscraper. Think building with more than four stories. In fact, any commercial property that generates revenue or in which revenue is generated as part of a company or business is where you are most likely to see very large, cargo box-like structures on the property outside the building or sitting on the roof. These are the commercial air conditioners, and they are responsible for keeping the entire building cool.

It is no small feat, either, because the ones on the roof have to cool the hottest part of the building first and then cool the building down from the very top. The ground units have to push cool air all the way to the top floor of the building, which is difficult because only hot air rises. If any one of these units for any one building breaks down and needs repair services, entire floors in the building will suffer for it, and everyone working on those floors will be extremely uncomfortable for at least a day, maybe a business week. The remaining units will not help, since they are typically responsible for cooling other floors.

Mansions With Multiple Residential Units

Any home over three thousand feet and multiple stories is going to need more than one air conditioner working around the clock. Mansions of thousands of square feet, and estate homes that are three, four, five, and even six stories high need more than three units to manage cooling the entire home. Like the commercial units, if one breaks down, the other units are not going to be able to cool the entire home. The only reprieve, and really the only solution while the broken units are being repaired, is to close off those areas of the mansion or estate and remain in the cooler areas of the home.

The Exception to the Rule

There is one exception to all of the above, and it might be something you want to look into if your building or home requires this many units for cooling. It is the geothermal air conditioning system, and it can manage to keep large buildings, mansions, and estate homes very comfortable indeed. The best part is that a geothermal unit rarely needs repair.
